Many safari lodges offer star beds, raised open-air platforms where couples can sleep beneath the Milky Way, listening to the night sounds of the bush.

Where the world contracts to two

Imagine a private deck overlooking a waterhole, a plunge pool warmed by the afternoon sun, and elephants drinking just beyond the railing. Later, dinner by lantern light, the sky ablaze with stars, and the distant roar of a lion carried on the night air.

A honeymoon safari is romance in its most elemental form. It combines adventure and intimacy, the thrill of the wild with the tranquillity of total privacy.

Africa offers couples a remarkable range of experiences, from the vineyards of the Cape to the thunder of Victoria Falls and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. We weave them into a journey that feels entirely your own.

Shared sightings in the golden hour become the first chapter of your story together.

Designing a romantic journey

We begin with the safari: intimate lodges with private suites, plunge pools and outdoor showers, where a private vehicle lets you set your own rhythm. Surprise bush dinners, sundowners on a riverbank and a night on a star bed create moments you will never forget.

Then we add contrast. Cape Town and the Winelands offer world-class dining and spectacular scenery, Victoria Falls adds drama and adventure, and the islands of Mauritius, the Seychelles or Mozambique provide the perfect barefoot finale.

“A honeymoon safari is not about doing more. It is about feeling everything, together, for the very first time.”

When to travel

The dry season from May to October offers outstanding game viewing and pleasant weather across southern and East Africa. Cape Town is at its best from November to March, so a summer honeymoon pairs the Cape beautifully with the lush green season in the bush.

There is truly no bad time for a honeymoon in Africa. We advise on the best combination for your dates.

How we craft your honeymoon

Every honeymoon we design is personal. We listen to how you want to feel, then select lodges, experiences and touches that reflect it, from a surprise champagne breakfast to a private guide for the entire journey.

We take care of every detail, so all you need to do is be present with each other.

Your Journey, Day by Day

  1. Fly to Skukuza and transfer to the lodge. You are met at the entrance with cold towels and fresh juice, and your suite has been prepared with flowers and candles. Your afternoon game drive is private — no other guests, a dedicated ranger who goes where you want, stays as long as you like.

  2. Rise before the sun and find the leopards that slipped through camp in the night. The Sabi Sands is home to the most frequently sighted and best-photographed leopards in Africa — calm, curious animals that allow vehicles to within a few metres. Between drives, champagne on the deck and the day's only agenda: the hippos in the waterhole below.

  3. Your guide takes you to a secret spot — a dry riverbed or a flat granite koppie — where the kitchen team has laid a candlelit table for two. The food is lodge-quality; the silence is total. After dinner, a spotlight drive back through the camp, looking for the leopard that may have draped itself across a branch above the road.

Day by day

Your Journey, Day by Day

  1. Private charter from Johannesburg to the reserve airstrip. The lodge is built from stone and indigenous timber along the Sand River. Your suite has a private plunge pool and an outdoor shower in the riverine bush. Your game drives are entirely private: go where you choose, when you choose, for as long as the sighting holds. The Sabi Sands produces the most reliable leopard sightings in the world, and the lion prides are large and active. Sundowners are set up in a different wild spot each evening; dinner may be on the river terrace, in the boma, or on a private deck under lanterns.
